How SierraGold Helped a Large Healthcare-Provider Network Monitor 911 Calls
A large healthcare provider network needed to quickly identify where and when a 911 call was made from one of their facilities. Based in New Jersey, the healthcare network includes academic centers, acute care facilities and research hospitals. As the largest healthcare provider in New Jersey, their goal is to create one integrated network to change how healthcare is delivered in the state.
Managing the organization’s telecom infrastructure is important for this integration.
The Challenge: Locating When and Where Internal 911 Calls Originated
The healthcare organization was experiencing a number of 911 calls being made from their facilities. They were unable to determine when the 911 calls were made and from where they originated. When emergency crews arrived onsite, personnel were unable to direct them to the appropriate location, wasting time and possibly risking lives.
They contacted SAI’s Professional Services staff to help find a way to quickly detect and locate these calls.
The Solution: SierraGold WatchDog
Using SierraGold WatchDog, SAI created a report to monitor traffic from the healthcare organization’s NEC switch. Now, on a 24x7x365 basis, WatchDog checks all outgoing traffic for 911 calls.
When a 911 call is detected, WatchDog immediately sends an alert to specified staff with the call detail of the 911 call attached.
The Results: Minimized Extra Charges and Cost Overruns
The healthcare organization now knows immediately whenever a 911 is made, and from where it originated. When they arrive onsite, emergency personnel can be immediately directed to the proper location, saving precious time, and possibly lives.
